magnesium metal properties

Magnesium is one of the most abundant light metal elements on the earth. The specific gravity of magnesium is 1.74g/cm3. The magnesium alloy is 36% lighter than aluminum alloy, 73% lighter than zinc alloy and 77% lighter than steel. The melting point of magnesium is 648.8 ℃.
Magnesium metal has high specific strength, high specific stiffness, good thermal conductivity, good electromagnetic shielding, damping, vibration damping, machining and low processing cost. The processing energy is only 70% of aluminum alloy and easy to recycle. The specific strength of magnesium alloy is higher than that of aluminum alloy and steel, which is slightly lower than that of fiber reinforced plastic with the highest specific strength; the specific stiffness is comparable to that of aluminum alloy and steel, much higher than that of fiber reinforced plastic; the wear resistance is much better than that of low carbon steel. It has exceeded the die-casting aluminum alloy A380; the vibration damping performance and magnetic shielding performance are far superior to those of aluminum alloy.
The most regular form of Magnesium is Magnesium Metal Ingot, which is a reputed product produced by our factory. The magnesium metal properties mainly refers to below aspects:
Magnesium metal physical properties: In addition to low specific gravity, magnesium has many other good physical properties, making it more useful than aluminum and plastic in automotive structural materials applications. The main advantages of magnesium physical properties are: 30 times higher damping performance than aluminum; 200 times higher thermal conductivity than plastic; its thermal expansion performance is only 1/2 of plastic.
Magnesium metal mechanical properties: Compared with die-cast aluminum alloys, magnesium has higher mechanical properties in addition to the above physical properties. The strength and stiffness of magnesium are significantly better than plastics, and the elongation and impact resistance are significantly better than die-cast aluminum alloys.
Magnesium metal processing properties: Magnesium has good processing properties, which means good casting properties. Compared with other materials, its manufacturing cost is very low. It is worth noting that although the price per kilogram of magnesium ingot is more expensive than aluminum and iron, its price per unit volume is almost the same.
The physicochemical properties of magnesium make it more suitable for die casting large parts than aluminum. The latent heat of fusion per unit volume of magnesium is only 2/3 of that of aluminum, the specific heat is only 3/4 of that of aluminum, and it has very low iron dissolution. These properties make magnesium die castings almost the same production cost as aluminum.
