the main uses of silicon carbide

The main uses of silicon carbide:

1. Abrasives-mainly because silicon carbide has high hardness, chemical stability and certain toughness, so silicon carbide can be used to make fixed abrasive tools, coated abrasive tools and free grinding to process glass and ceramics , Stone, cast iron and some non-ferrous metals, cemented carbide, titanium alloy, high-speed steel cutting tools and grinding wheels.

2. Refractory and corrosion-resistant materials---mainly because silicon carbide has a high melting point (decomposition degree), chemical inertness and thermal vibration resistance, so silicon carbide can be used in abrasives and ceramic products firing kilns Shed boards and saggers, silicon carbide bricks used in vertical distillation furnaces in the zinc smelting industry, aluminum electrolytic cell linings, crucibles, small furnace materials, and many other silicon carbide ceramic products.

3. Chemical industry-because silicon carbide can decompose in molten steel and react with oxygen and metal oxides in molten steel to form carbon monoxide and silicon-containing slag. Therefore, it can be used as a purifying agent for smelting steel, that is, as a deoxidizer for steelmaking and a cast iron structure improver. This generally uses low-purity silicon carbide to reduce costs. At the same time, it can also be used as a raw material for the manufacture of silicon tetrachloride.

4. Electrician-used as heating element, non-linear resistance element and high semiconductor material. Heating elements such as silicon carbide rods (applicable to various electric furnaces operating at 1100-1500°C), non-linear resistance elements, and various types of lightning arrester valves.

5. Others---prepared into far-infrared radiation coating or made into silicon carbide board in far-infrared radiation dryer.
