Silicon carbide for steelmaking is always used as deoxidizer. Silicon carbide is one type of synthetic raw materials, which is using natural silica with the content of SiO2 more than 97% and the coke as raw materials, then add little quantity of salt and sawdust, synthesized by a resistance furnace under the temperature of 2000~2500℃.

The ferro silicon and silicon carbide are all the good deoxidizer for steelmaking. Compared with the ferro silicon, the silicon carbide will cause less slag, and because the carbon oxidation will form foam slag, will appear better reaction in molten steel. The silicon carbide as the deoxidizer mainly suitable for the carbon steel and some low alloy steel, do not suitable for the smelting of ultra-low carbon steel.

The silicon carbide for the steelmaking as the deoxidizer has the characters as following:

1.React with oxygen faster than ferro silicon powder, carbon powder and calcium carbide, can reduce reduction time, reduce power consumption and improve the labor productivity.

2.The decomposition and oxidation of silicon carbide deoxidizer at high temperature is an exothermic reaction process. The positive pressure in the furnace is strong, which can ensure the necessary conditions for deoxidation and sulfur removal, then make the silicon carbide as desulfurizer for steelmaking.

3.The foam slag is rich and active, it can reduce arc radiation, thereby, can improve the life of the lining and the furnace cover, and reduce the heat shutdown time and the consumption of auxiliary materials.

Totally, silicon carbide as deoxidizer for steel making can reduce the raw material cost and power consumption.
