cast aluminum alloy

Cast aluminum alloy is one type of cast alloy formed by adding other metal or non-metal elements on the basis of pure aluminum. Cast aluminum alloy not only maintains the basic properties of pure aluminum, but also has good comprehensive properties due to alloying and heat treatment.

Cast aluminum alloy is named a certain number to represent one type of aluminum alloys, such as ZL101, where ZL represents cast aluminum, where “1” represent aluminum-silicon alloy, “2”represent aluminum-copper alloy,“3”represent aluminum-magnesium alloy,“4”represent aluminum-zinc alloy,  and the following two digits indicate different codes of similar aluminum alloys.

Let’s look at the commonly used cast aluminum alloy components in detail below:

(1)Aluminum-silicon alloy is the most variety and used alloy among the cast aluminum alloys, which own good casting properties and wear resistance and have a small coefficient of thermal expansion. The silicon content is 4%~13%, sometimes added 0.2%~0.6% magnesium, it is widely used in structural parts, such as shells, cylinders, boxes and frames, sometimes adding appropriate amounts of copper and magnesium then can improve the mechanical properties and heat resistance of the alloy, this type of alloy with copper and magnesium is widely used in the manufacture of pistons and other parts.

(2)Aluminum-magnesium alloy is one type of aluminum alloy with lowest density and lightest, it is with the content of magnesium 12%, in the atmosphere and seawater will appear good corrosion resistance, and has good comprehensive mechanical properties and performance at room temperature. It can be used as a radar base, engine casting of an aircraft, parts such as propellers and landing gear, can also be used as decorative materials.

(3)Aluminum-zinc alloys, silicon and magnesium are often added to improve performance, often called "core silicon aluminum alloy". Under casting conditions, the alloy has a quenching effect, that is, "self-quenching", and it can be used without heat treatment. After metamorphic heat treatment, the casting has higher strength, after stabilization treatment, the size is stable, and it is often used to make models, templates and equipment supports.

Cast aluminum alloy has the same alloy system as wrought aluminum alloy, and has the same strengthening mechanism (except strain strengthening) of wrought aluminum alloy. The main difference is that the maximum content of alloying element silicon in cast aluminum alloy exceeds that of most wrought aluminum alloys. In addition to the strengthening elements, the cast aluminum alloy must also contain a sufficient amount of eutectic elements (usually silicon) to make the alloy have considerable fluidity and easily fill the shrinkage joints of the casting during casting.

Anyang Huatuo Metallurgy has been engaged in aluminum alloy casting materials for more than 10 years, and has been selling high-quality silicon metal and magnesium ingots all the year round. If there is any demand in this regard, welcome for consult.
