Silicon Carbide Abrasive Introduction

The main component of silicon carbide abrasive is silicon carbide sand (Sic). Silicon carbide is based on petroleum coke and high-quality silica as the main raw materials, and salt is added as an additive. Its hardness is between corundum and diamond, and its mechanical strength is higher than corundum. The higher the silicon carbide content in silicon carbide abrasives, the higher its hardness and grinding performance.

Silicon carbide abrasives include black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide. One is green silicon carbide abrasive, which contains more than 97% SiC. It is mainly used for grinding hard gold-containing tools. The other is black silicon carbide abrasive, which has a metallic luster, contains more than 95% SiC, has a higher strength than green silicon carbide, but has a lower hardness, and is mainly used for grinding cast iron and non-metal materials.

The finer the particles of silicon carbide abrasive, the lower the Sic content. Sic has a strong hardness (Mohs hardness of 9.2), and has a fairly sharp cutting edge and self-sharpness. Maintain its inherent hardness and strength; it is not easy to produce chemical reactions with many non-metals (glass, ceramics, etc.) and certain non-ferrous metals (zinc, copper and its alloys).

4. High thermal shock instability and load softening temperature, which ensures a small linear expansion coefficient when cutting under load, so as to ensure that the cutting is not disordered; and it has good adaptability to the cutting machine.

5. The surface is specially treated. The fine powder has a large specific surface area and a clean appearance, and has good compatibility with cutting fluids such as polyethylene glycol.
