How to Choose Steelmaking Silicon Carbide

Silicon carbide is one of main raw materials for grinding materials and tools, but it always require high grade, the content is more than 98%. For the low grade silicon carbide it can use into the steelmaking as deoxidizer, it can replace the usage of ferro silicon and carbon additive.
 
The production of silicon carbide is high related with temperature,between the fields of electrode, because of the high temperature, so the content of silicon carbide is more than 98%,the closer to the outer layer,the lower content of the silicon carbide, but for the steelmaking silicon carbide, the outer layer low content is proper, for one reason is the cheap price, the other reason is high content of β-SiC making it more easy to absorb in the molten steel.

Anyang Huatuo Metallurgy has in the silicon carbide for more than 10 years, now introduce how to choose proper silicon carbide for steelmaking as followings:there are two aspects need to consider,firstly,it is the effect of steelmaking, generally speaking, for the lower grade of silicon carbide, the rest unreacted quantity of petroleum coke and quartzs sand is much more, it can not only influence the absorption, but also disadvantageous to the purity of molten steel, so for the steelmaking used silicon carbide need high grade at least 50%;Secondly should considered the economical efficiency, acturally the higher the SiC content, the higher of the price, according to the testing, if the SiC content more than 90%, it will be not economically for steelmaking. What is more,for different steel can choose different grade of silicon carbide, for the middle or high carbon steel should choose the higher grade, and for the plain carbon steel should choose lower grade, in this way,it is economical and little effect on the purity of molten steel, generally, the steel factory used silicon carbide should not in too much grades, Huatuo suggests two grade 55%~60% and 80%~85% silicon carbide to meet the requirement of steelmaking.
 
Using silicon carbide for steelmaking will bring more advantages as followings: firstly, the silicon carbide contains carbon and silicon which are required for steelmaking,it can replace the carbon and part of ferro silicon; Secondly, the impurity content of silicon is less than 6%, it can reduce the quantity of brittle inclusions in the steel, if you have any requirement, welcome for contact.
