Selection of inoculant:

1.In order to prevent the cracks in large thick-walled castings should choose the RE ferrosilicon-magnesium alloys as inoculant, RE: 13.24%~13.69%, Mg: 12.76%~13.11%, Si: 38%~44%, and the addition amount is 0.25%.

2.FeSi 72 inoculant can be used for the production of ferritic ductile castings, with a particle size of 2-6mm and an added amount of 1.5%. At the same time, 0.16% of pure aluminum is added for rechecking and strengthening incubation, and the effect is better.

3.In order to prevent inoculation and decline of ductile iron, FeSi75 with a particle size of 3-8mm can be used for one inoculation, and the particle size for the second inoculation is 0.5~2mm, and the powder is used for the third inoculation, and the addition amount is 0.3%~1%.

4.When facing large section, high carbon equivalent, high strength cast iron, and inoculant with a titanium content of 0.08%~0.15% can be used. For high-carbon equivalent thin-walled gray cast irons, silicon-barium RE alloy inoculants should be used to reduce the white mouth trends to reduce the hardness of the castings, and inhibit the gestation and decline, etc., and the effect is better. The addition amount is 0.3% to 1%.

5.RE-Si inoculant has a strong ability to eliminate white mouth, but the tendency to form D and E type supercooled graphite is relatively large, and it is difficult to reduce the hardness of the casting. Si-Ba inoculant eliminated D and E type supercooled graphite and has a stronger ability to promote the formation of A-type graphite. Therefore, the combination of two inoculants has a better effect.

6.The sulfur content in the molten iron has a greater impact on the inoculation treatment. In molten iron with high sulfur content, graphite-based (such as electrode chips) and N-based (such as Fe-Mn-N) inoculants are generally used for good results. In molten iron with low sulfur content, Ce, Ca,Ba,N series (such as RE-Si, Ca-Si-Ba, Fe-Mn-N, Ca-Si-Sr) have good inoculation effect.
