Silica Fume Usage for Concrete

The silica fume is collected from furnace smoke which contains a lot amount of amorphous silicon dioxide, it is one type of by-product which comes from the producing of ferro silicon and silicon metal, during the formation of silica fume, because of the surface tension during the phase transition then form amorphous spherical particles, it owns glaze surface, some are aggregates of globular particles stuck together.

silica fume usage

At present, the silica fume is generally used for the high strength concrete in various countries in the world, along with the the promulgation of standard for adding silica fume to concrete, the application of silica fume has been greatly developed.
There are two ways to add the silica fume to the concrete, one is with the same amount of water added, one part of silica fume can replace of three to five parts of concrete(weight);the other way is with same amount of cement. The weight ratio of silica fume with gel material is as following: 5%-10% for the high performance concrete, hydraulic concrete and sprayed concrete;6%-8% for wear resistance industrial floor and amorphous refractory; for the pump aid can add 2%-3%.
According to different usage of concrete, based on different mixture ratio, first adding the aggregates, then add the silica fume, there are two ways to add the silica fume, for the first added 100% aggregates then add silica fume and cement mixed, then add water and other additive; the second is added coarse aggregate-75% water -silica fume-50% fine aggregate-25% water final mixed all evenly. What need to be noticed is that the time of stir need to extend 20-25% or 50-60 seconds, and remember do not add the silica fume to the mixed concrete directly.
Added the silica fume for the concrete can increase the strength of the concrete and corrosion resistance, AnYang Huatuo has in the silica fume for more than 10 years, can supply the content of 85%,90% and 95% in un-densified and densified, if any confused of the silica fume and usage for concrete, please contact us or leave your message.
