Petroleum coke is a by-product produced during the smelting of petroleum. It can be divided into high sulfur coke (more than 3% sulfur) and low sulfur coke (less than 3% sulfur) according to the sulfur content. Graphitized petroleum coke generally uses high-quality low-sulfur petroleum coke. After being heated at high temperature (2300℃ graphitization) in a graphitization furnace, the carbon atom arrangement is in the form of graphitized microstructure, making it graphitized into graphite material to form graphitized petroleum coke, that is called high-quality recarburizer.

Graphitization can reduce the content of impurities in the recarburizer, increase the carbon content of the recarburizer, and reduce the sulfur content. The graphitized petroleum coke can be used in the steel-making, casting as recarburizer and other additive material such as additives for brake pads as friction material.
