adding amount of inoculant

Inoculation treatment refers to adding a small amount of other substances to the liquid metal during the solidification process to promote nucleation, inhibit growth, and achieve the purpose of grain refinement,Traditionally, adding additives to cast iron is called inoculation treatment, and the adding additives is called inoculant.

For different castings, the amount of inoculant added is different, more details as following:

1.Generally, nodular cast iron has more inoculants than gray cast iron.

2. If the pouring time of the molten iron after inoculation treatment is longer, the addition amount should be increased due to the inoculation decline.

3. Thin-walled castings are prone to white mouths, and the amount of inoculant added increases accordingly.

4. When there is a lot of slag in the molten iron, the inoculant will be wrapped up and difficult to melt once it comes into contact with the slag, so the amount added will increase accordingly.

5. Excessive addition of inoculant will cause excessive molten slag to lower the temperature of the molten iron and shrinkage caused by eutectic clusters. If the particle size of the inoculant is too large, it will not be able to inoculate the molten iron uniformly, and the undissolved inoculant will also be poured into the cavity; if the inoculant is too small, it will be easy to oxidize and cause slag, and it is also prone to inoculation decline.

6. The inoculant used in the flow-through inoculation method has a small block size, generally 0.2-0.8mm, and the added amount is 0.05%~0.2%; the block size of the in-type inoculation method generally requires no more than 0.25mm, and the added amount is no more than 0.1 %. The block size added by other inoculation methods is generally 1-10mm, and the added amount is 0.1%~0.8%.
