Various uses of ferrosilicon

1)Ferrosilicon use as deoxagent and alloy agent in steelmaking industry. In order to obtain qualified steel with chemical composition and ensure the quality of steel, deoxygenation must be carried out in the post stage of steelmaking. 

The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very large, so ferrosilicon is a strong deoxygenation agent for steelmaking used for precipitation and diffusion deoxygenation. Add a certain amount of silicon to the steel, can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel, so in the smelting of structural steel (including silicon 0.40-1.75%), tool steel (including SiO.30-1.8%), spring steel (including SiO.40-2.8%) and transformer silicon steel (including silicon 2.81-4.8%), ferrosilicon is also used as an alloy agent.

 At the same time, improving the inclusion form to reduce the content of gas elements in the steel liquid, is an effective new technology to improve the steel quality, reduce the cost and save the iron use. It is especially suitable for continuous cast steel water deoxidation requirements. (2) Use as a gestation agent and a pelleting agent in the casting iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry, it is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelting, has excellent casting performance and much better seismic capacity than steel. Especially the ductile iron, its mechanical properties to achieve or close to the mechanical properties of steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to the cast iron can prevent the formation of carbide in the iron and promote the precipitation and globulation of graphite. Therefore, in the production of ductile iron, ferrosilicon is an important incubation agent (helping to precipitate graphite) and globulation agent. 

(3) Use as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production. Not only is the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen very high, but also the carbon content of high ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high-silicon ferrosilicon (or silicon alloy) is a more commonly used reducing agent in the production of low-carbon ferroalloy in the ferroalloy industry. 

(4) 75 # ferrosilicon is often used in the high temperature smelting process of magnesium. Replacing the magnesium in CaO.MgO, every ton of magnesium consumes about 1.2 tons of ferrosilicon, which plays a great role in the production of magnesium.
